Guided workflow variation

One combined set in.One named PDF per sheet out.

Trades rarely need every page; the electrician wants the E sheets, the steel detailer wants structural, and both want files they can forward. SheetStamp writes each page of the set to its own document, labeled with the number and title printed on that drawing.

Mark the title block once, fix the flagged rows, then choose Save one file per sheet. Each page becomes a PDF named by its sheet number.

If this sounds like your week

Nobody downstream wants the whole set.

The architect issues one combined PDF. The electrical contractor needs the E pages, the steel fabricator needs structural, and the print shop needs three drawings reproduced at full size. Mailing the entire file to everyone buries what each recipient cares about, while sending just one drawing means locating it first, cutting it out, and giving it a filename people will recognize.

Where tooling usually breaks

Extracting pages one at a time eats the afternoon.

A full PDF editor can split documents, but its output is often named from the source plus a part number, so plans_Part37.pdf must still be opened, identified and renamed. Printing each page to a new PDF with the printer built into Windows works too, one page and one typed filename per print. Online splitters handle small jobs quickly, though they process the drawings on someone else's server.

Where SheetStamp lands

Every page leaves as its own file, called by its number.

After reading and settling the flagged rows, choose Save one file per sheet and pick a destination folder. SheetStamp writes each page to a separate PDF whose filename is its number and title, with a bookmark inside. Characters Windows forbids in filenames become spaces, a repeated number gets the page appended so nothing collides, and an existing file in that folder is never replaced.

What you get

Feature highlights

One box for the whole set

drag one rectangle around the title block on page 1, or pick Bottom-right block or Right-edge strip, and SheetStamp reads that zone on every page, including scans, rotated pages and vertical title strips.

A review table, flagged rows first

because OCR can misread, sheet numbers not found, low-confidence reads, duplicates and oddly written numbers are flagged with the reason and the title block crop, and every cell can be edited.

Bookmarks from sheet names

a new PDF with one bookmark per page, such as A-101 - FIRST FLOOR PLAN, built from the title block and checked by you.

Page labels that match the sheets

each page gets its sheet number as its label, so viewers that support page labels show A-101 instead of 2.

One PDF per sheet

Save one file per sheet writes each page into a folder you pick, named by sheet number and title, at its original sheet size, without replacing any existing file.

Original untouched, nothing uploaded

the source PDF is opened read-only, saving over it is refused, text is read on your PC with Windows OCR, and there is no account and no network connection.

Especially when

  • Name the pages of a combined plan-set PDF from their title blocks instead of typing every sheet number and title by hand
  • Add bookmarks and page labels to a construction drawing set without a paid PDF editor
  • Split a plan set into one PDF per sheet, named by sheet number, on a Windows PC without uploading the drawings
  • Check every sheet number read from the title blocks before anything is written, with uncertain rows flagged

Who benefits

Real-world scenarios

An electrical subcontractor

An electrical contractor receives the full bid set for a school addition and wants the E sheets and the reflected ceiling plans in the project folder, each named so the crew can find them on a tablet.

Save one file per sheet writes every page as its own PDF. Sorting the folder by name groups the E sheets together, so the coordinator keeps the ones the crew needs and deletes the rest. The bid set itself is untouched.

A print shop counter

A customer asks for A-301 through A-305 at full size from a 90-page combined PDF, and the counter needs those pages as separate files to send to the plotter.

After the split, the five drawings sit in the folder under their own names. Each file is a single page at the size it was drawn, so a 24 by 36 inch sheet stays 24 by 36 inches.

A sheet that appears twice

A revised drawing was appended to the end of the set, so A-101 appears on page 2 and again on page 41 with a newer revision in its title block.

Both rows are flagged as duplicates, each naming the other page, and the Revision column shows which is newer. If both are kept, the second is saved as A-101 - FIRST FLOOR PLAN (page 41).pdf, so neither overwrites the other.

Deep dive

What the split files contain, and how they are named

One page, one file. Save one file per sheet writes every page of the set as a separate single-page PDF. It does not group pages, and there is no page-range or discipline filter, so a 90-page set becomes 90 files. A page without a title block, such as a specification page bound into the set, is still written; its row is flagged, and unless you type a sheet number its file name starts with Page and the page number.

The name. Each file is named with the sheet number, a spaced hyphen and the sheet title, then .pdf: A-101 - FIRST FLOOR PLAN.pdf. Names come from the review table, so whatever you typed in a cell is what the file gets. The Revision column is there for checking and is not added to the file name.

Windows-safe names. A slash, colon, question mark, quotation mark or other character Windows does not allow in a file name is replaced with a space, repeated spaces are collapsed, and names Windows reserves for devices, such as CON, get an underscore. Very long titles are cut so the name stays within 120 characters before the extension.

Collisions. Two pages with the same sheet number are flagged in the table before you export. If you split anyway, the later page gets its page number added, such as (page 41). If the destination folder already holds a file with the same name, for example from an earlier split, Windows gives the new file a different name and the existing file is left alone.

What is inside each file. Each split PDF holds the page as it was drawn, at its original sheet size, with one bookmark carrying the sheet name. The document title, author, subject and keywords of the source are copied. The source's existing bookmarks, links and layer settings are not carried over, and split files carry no page label.

If something stops the split. When Windows refuses a write part-way, for example because access to the folder is denied, SheetStamp stops, removes the unfinished file, and tells you how many files were written. Fix the cause and run the export again.

Check first. Text recognition can misread a sheet number, and a misread in the usual spot is only flagged when it duplicates another sheet. Read down the Sheet column under All pages before splitting, because the file names are only as good as that column.

How it is built

Built so you check the names before anything is written.

Review, then export

OCR can misread, so every page lands in a review table first. Missing, uncertain and duplicate sheet numbers are flagged with the title block crop, and any cell can be fixed by typing.

Original never changed

The source PDF is opened read-only and saving over it is refused. Every export is a new file, and split files never replace an existing file.

Nothing uploads

Text is read with the OCR built into Windows, on your PC. No account, no sign-in, no network connections. One-time purchase in the Microsoft Store.

FAQ

Straight answers—no glossary dump

How do I split a plan set into one PDF per sheet?

Open the combined PDF in SheetStamp, draw one rectangle around the title block on page 1, and choose Read all pages. Fix the rows under Needs review, then choose Save one file per sheet and pick a folder. Every page is written as its own PDF, named by sheet number and title. The combined PDF is not changed.

Can I split out only some sheets, such as the electrical pages?

Not inside SheetStamp. Save one file per sheet writes every page of the set, and there is no page-range or discipline filter. Because the files are named by sheet number, sorting the destination folder by name groups each discipline together, so you can keep or forward the E sheets and delete the rest in File Explorer.

Do the split files keep their full sheet size?

Yes. Each page is copied into its own PDF as it was drawn, at its original size, so an ARCH D sheet stays ARCH D and a letter-size page stays letter size. SheetStamp does not rescale or reprint the page. Each file also gets one bookmark with its sheet number and title.

What is SheetStamp, and what does it need to run?

SheetStamp is a Windows app that names the pages of a plan-set PDF from their title blocks: it reads each sheet number, title and revision, lets you check them in a review table, and saves a new copy with bookmarks and page labels, or one PDF per sheet. It runs on Windows 10 version 2004 or later and Windows 11, on x64 and Arm64. Text is read with the recognition built into Windows, so a Windows OCR language must be installed; if none is, SheetStamp names the Settings page where you add one. No paid PDF editor is needed.

Will SheetStamp change my original PDF?

No. The PDF you open is read-only to SheetStamp, and every export writes a new file: a bookmarked copy you name in the Windows save dialog, or one PDF per sheet in a folder you pick. If you choose the original file as the save target, SheetStamp refuses before writing anything, even after you confirm the dialog's replace prompt. Split files never replace an existing file; a clash gets a new name instead.

Does anything leave my PC, and how do I get SheetStamp?

Nothing is uploaded. Text recognition runs on your PC, the app makes no network connections, and there is no account or sign-in. It reads only the PDF you pick and writes only to the file or folder you pick. SheetStamp is a one-time purchase in the Microsoft Store, with a 15-day free trial that has every feature, so you can run your own plan sets through it before you buy. There is no subscription.

Draw the title block once.
Name every sheet from it.

SheetStamp reads the sheet number, title and revision from each title block, flags what needs a look in a review table, and saves a new copy with bookmarks and page labels, or one PDF per sheet. Your original is never changed, and nothing uploads.
