Both Bluebeam Revu’s AutoMark and SheetStamp bookmark a plan set by reading the sheet number and title from the same region of every page. The difference is in the inputs and the price. AutoMark is a feature of Revu, a subscription PDF suite, and Bluebeam says it works best on vector PDFs whose pages are the same size and registration. SheetStamp, a Windows app from Automata Labs, reads the title block with the text recognition built into Windows, so it also reads scanned sheets, shows every reading in a review table before writing anything, and is a one-time purchase that does only this job. If you already pay for Revu and your sets are clean CAD exports, AutoMark is the obvious choice. If you do not have Revu, or your sets mix scans and plots, SheetStamp is the cheaper and more forgiving tool.
Prices and features below were checked on the vendors’ own pages in October 2026.

What does AutoMark do in Bluebeam Revu?
AutoMark is the option in Revu’s Create Bookmarks dialog that builds bookmarks from text inside a page region. Per Bluebeam’s Create and edit bookmarks page:
- Open the Bookmarks panel (Window > Panels > Bookmarks, or Alt+B) and choose Create Bookmarks.
- Choose Page Region, then drag a box around the text to use, for example the sheet number in the title block. “The data in this region should be located in the same place on each PDF.”
- Add more regions if you want, for example the sheet title, and arrange them in the Selection field with any text before, after or between them.
- Check the sample under Preview, pick the page range and run it.
Revu can create page labels from regions in a similar way, and its pricing page lists “Automatically create bookmarks and page labels” as a Revu capability. Bluebeam is also candid about where AutoMark struggles: “AutoMark is most suitable for documents that are vector-based, are the same size and have the same registration. AutoMark might not work as expected if the pages are different sizes, if some of the pages are not searchable, or if the scans are not properly registered.”
What does SheetStamp do?
SheetStamp names the sheets of a plan-set PDF from their title blocks:
- Open the PDF and draw one rectangle around the title block on page 1, or pick the Bottom-right block or Right-edge strip preset.
- SheetStamp reads each page’s sheet number, sheet title and revision with Windows built-in text recognition (OCR).
- A review table lists every page. Pages that need a look come first, each with the reason, the title-block crop and the text read from it. Every cell can be edited.
- Choose what to write: a new PDF with bookmarks such as “A-101 - FIRST FLOOR PLAN” and page labels, so the viewer’s page box shows A-101 instead of 2, or one PDF per sheet, named the same way, in a folder you pick.
Your original PDF is never changed, nothing is uploaded, and the app makes no network connections. It runs on Windows 10 version 2004 or later and Windows 11, on x64 and Arm64.
How do they compare side by side?
| Bluebeam Revu AutoMark | SheetStamp | |
|---|---|---|
| What you buy | A Revu subscription: Basics $260, Core $330, Complete $440, Max $590 (introductory), per user per year, billed annually | One-time purchase in the Microsoft Store |
| How text is read | From the PDF’s text in the region; scans need to be searchable | Windows OCR on the title-block zone, so scans and plots without text work |
| Best inputs | Vector PDFs, same page size, same registration | Mixed sets, including scans; uncertain rows are flagged |
| Review before writing | Preview of a sample label | Full table of every page, uncertain rows first, every cell editable |
| Output | Bookmarks and page labels in the open document | New bookmarked PDF with page labels, or one PDF per sheet |
| Fields | Any regions you define, combined with your own text | Sheet number, sheet title and revision |
| Everything else | Markup, measurement, compare, Studio collaboration and more | Nothing else: no takeoff, estimating or markup |
| Data location | Desktop app, with cloud features in the plans | On your PC only, no account |
Bluebeam prices are from bluebeam.com/pricing in October 2026. The pricing page lists automatic bookmark and page label creation among Revu features but does not make clear which plan includes it, so check with Bluebeam if you are choosing a plan for this alone. Bluebeam also states that Revu 20 reaches end of support on July 31, 2026 and end of life on December 31, 2026, after which it gets no technical support or updates.
When is AutoMark the better choice?
- You already pay for Revu. The feature is there, and adding a second tool for one task makes little sense.
- Your sets are clean vector exports. CAD-plotted PDFs with real text in a consistent title block are exactly what AutoMark is designed for.
- You want custom bookmark text. Several regions plus your own separators let you build bookmark names in any pattern.
- The bookmarks are one step of a bigger Revu workflow, such as Sets, Batch Link hyperlinks or Batch Slip Sheet for revisions.
When is SheetStamp the better choice?
- You do not have a Revu subscription and bookmarking plan sets is the only thing you need it for.
- Your sets include scans. A set assembled from a scanned record set and new plots will not be uniformly searchable. Revu can run OCR first, but SheetStamp reads the zone with OCR directly.
- You want to check every reading before export. OCR can misread, especially very short isolated marks such as a single-letter revision. The review table puts uncertain pages first so you fix them before anything is written.
- You need one file per sheet. Splitting the set into named sheet PDFs is a single export. Our guide to splitting a plan set into individual sheets covers when that helps.
- The files must stay on the PC. SheetStamp makes no network connections and has no account.
Read every title block, fix the uncertain rows, then write a bookmarked copy or one file per sheet.

Do page labels work in every viewer?
No, and this applies to both tools. Page labels are part of the PDF standard and show in Adobe Acrobat and in Revu, so the page box reads A-101 instead of 2. Some PDF viewers, including browser viewers, ignore page labels but still show the bookmarks. If the set is going to someone who opens PDFs in a browser, the bookmarks are what they will navigate by. Our page on plan set PDF page labels explains the difference, and permit plan set bookmark requirements covers what some reviewing agencies ask for.
What makes title-block reading fail, in either tool?
| Cause | Effect | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Title block moves between sheets | Region misses the text on some pages | Split the set by sheet size or discipline and run each part |
| Mixed page sizes | Region lands in a different place | Same as above |
| Scans without text (AutoMark) | Nothing to read | Run OCR first in Revu, or use an OCR-based tool |
| Single-letter revisions, faint scans (OCR) | Misreads or blanks | Fix in the review table before export |
| Cover sheet and index without a title block | Odd bookmark names | Edit those rows by hand |
Our guide to bookmarking a construction drawing set covers the manual method and these problems in more depth, and the sheet numbers explainer covers how sheet numbers are structured.
Frequently asked questions
Can Bluebeam Revu bookmark a plan set automatically?
Yes. Create Bookmarks with the Page Region option (AutoMark) builds bookmarks from text in a region you draw. Bluebeam says it works best on vector PDFs of the same size and registration.
Does SheetStamp need Bluebeam or Acrobat?
No. SheetStamp writes the bookmarks and page labels itself and does not need any paid PDF editor.
Can SheetStamp read scanned plan sets?
Yes. It reads the title-block zone with the text recognition built into Windows, so pages without a text layer can be read. OCR can misread, which is why the review table comes before any export.
Will SheetStamp change my original PDF?
No. It always writes a new PDF, or a folder of single-sheet PDFs, and leaves the original untouched.
How does SheetStamp compare with other bookmarking tools?
Our comparison of SheetStamp and SheetNav covers another alternative.
