Guided workflow variation

The addendum is in.Here is what it changed.

Addenda tend to land days before bids close, often as a handful of reissued pages plus a memo. This app finds the bid-day original of each reissued page, wherever it sits in a combined PDF, and shows what moved.

Pick the bid set and the addendum, choose Compare all, and the reissued sheets come back ranked by how much changed, each with its clouds.

If this sounds like your week

An addendum is a few pages lost inside a big set.

The bid documents came as one combined PDF of fifty pages. Addendum 2 brings six reissued pages as separate files, a cover memo, and a new detail. Before the number can move, somebody has to locate each reissued page's original inside that combined file, put the two next to each other, and work out what the architect actually revised.

Where tooling usually breaks

Bid day does not wait for a page-by-page hunt.

Addenda bunch up in the final days before close, and each one restarts the search. Bubbles around the edits help, but they cover what the drafter chose to cover, and a quantity revised in a schedule or a reworded keynote can slip by. Miss one and the price reflects an old drawing, discovered at buyout rather than before submission.

Where Drawing Revision Delta lands

Pair the addendum against the whole set at once.

Pick the bid set as Set A and the addendum folder as Set B. The app splits combined PDFs, reads every title block, and pairs each reissued sheet with its original, preferring the candidate whose page size matches when a memo mentions the same number. New sheets land in Only in B; untouched originals wait in Only in A.

What you get

Feature highlights

Whole sets paired by sheet number

pick a folder or files for each revision, as one combined PDF, a file per sheet, or scans in TIFF, PNG, JPEG, and BMP, and sheets are matched by the number in each title block, read from the PDF text or with the text recognition built into Windows.

Changed sheets ranked

Compare all gives every sheet its number of changes, share of change, and text edits, sorts the most changed first, and lists the sheets that are new or removed.

Revision clouds around every change

every change is clouded and numbered in the change list, including changes nobody clouded on the drawing, and Fade unchanged shows exactly what moved.

Text edits in plain words

notes, dimensions, and schedules are compared word by word from the PDF text, so an edit reads “2x6” → “2x8”, even when only one character changed.

Aligned before it compares

each pair is lined up for shift, rotation, and scale and corrected locally for plotter and scanner stretch, then shown in Overlay, Blink, or Side by side.

A report and a clouded set, nothing uploaded

export a PDF change report with a SHA-256 hash of every compared file, the revised sheets with editable cloud markups, CSV files, and PNG snapshots, all on your PC.

Especially when

  • Find which sheets changed between a bid set and an addendum or conformed set without flipping through both PDFs sheet by sheet
  • Catch changes that were never clouded on a reissued drawing, including one-word edits to notes, schedules, and dimensions
  • Overlay two revisions of a sheet that were plotted at a different offset or scale, without lining them up by hand
  • Send the field or the bid file a clouded set and a change report without uploading the drawings to an online service

Who benefits

Real-world scenarios

A mechanical subcontractor's estimator

Addendum 2 reissues four sheets three days before bid, one of them the mechanical plan. The estimator needs the duct and equipment changes on that sheet, and a quick read on what moved on the other three.

With the bid set as A and the addendum as B, the four reissued sheets pair by number. The mechanical overlay shows the rerouted duct in red and blue inside its clouds, and the edited schedule entries are listed in words in the change list.

An addendum with a memo and rotated sheets

The addendum PDF holds a letter-size memo followed by reissued sheets that were flattened and turned on their side, so none of their text can be selected.

Drawing Revision Delta splits the PDF into sheets and reads the turned title blocks with the text recognition built into Windows. The reissued sheets pair with their originals by number, and the memo stays listed under Only in B, out of the way.

A conformed set after several addenda

After three addenda, the architect issues a conformed set that folds every change into one PDF. The project team wants one list of what differs from the bid set, sheet by sheet.

Compare all on the bid set and the conformed set fills the Status column for every sheet. Most changed first ranks them, the summary line counts changed, unchanged, new, and removed sheets, and sheet-summary.csv carries the same list into Excel.

Deep dive

Comparing an addendum against the bid set, step by step

Set A is the bid set as issued. In Sets, choose Pick folder or Pick files under Set A · earlier revision. A combined bid PDF is split into sheets, and each sheet is listed with its number, title, file, page, and size.

Set B can be the addendum alone. You do not need a full reissued set. Pick the addendum folder or its files under Set B · later revision, and each reissued sheet pairs with its original by title block number. The bid sheets the addendum did not touch are listed under Only in A, so the Pairs table holds just the sheets that were reissued.

Memos, specification pages, and new sheets. Addenda often mix a letter-size memo, revised specification pages, and drawings. When a memo names the same sheet number as a drawing, the sheet whose page size matches the original is the one paired. Pages with no counterpart stay in Only in B, along with any sheet that is new in this addendum.

Scans and flattened sheets. Some addenda are plotted flat, scanned, or rotated. Their title blocks are read with the text recognition built into Windows, on your PC, and a sheet number in the file name serves as a cross-check for single-sheet files.

Rank, then read. Choose Compare all. Each row gets a status such as 23 changes · 10% · 9 text edits, and the View choice Most changed first puts the heaviest revisions at the top. Compare selected opens one, with clouds around each change and the change list on the right.

Keep the revision block quiet. Every reissued sheet carries a new date and revision entry. Mask title block covers the usual bottom-right title block, or Draw mask covers the exact area, so those edits stop counting and the real changes stand out.

Read the words. Edited notes, schedule entries, and dimensions are read from the PDF text and listed in plain terms, such as “NOT USED.” changed to a new card reader note, so a one-word edit is not lost in a busy sheet.

Hand it on. Choose folder and export writes change-report.pdf, opening with the changed-sheet list, plus clouded-set.pdf with the reissued sheets clouded, sheet-summary.csv, changes.csv, and PNG snapshots. Forward the clouded set to the field and keep the report with the bid.

The next addendum. Recent folders remembers both sets, so Use as A and Use as B bring them back when Addendum 3 arrives.

How it is built

Built to compare the drawings themselves, on your PC.

Aligned, then compared

Each pair is fitted for shift, rotation, and scale and corrected locally for plotter and scanner stretch, so the clouds mark what changed, whether or not the drawing was clouded.

Nothing uploads

It runs in the Windows app sandbox with no declared capabilities and no network code. No account, no sign-in, no telemetry, and scanned title blocks are read with Windows text recognition on the PC.

Drawings opened read-only

The sets you compare are only read. Every export is a new file, and the clouded set copies each revised sheet unchanged, with the clouds added as editable PDF markups.

FAQ

Straight answers—no glossary dump

Can I compare just the addendum sheets against the full bid set?

Yes. Pick the full bid set as Set A and only the addendum sheets as Set B. Each reissued sheet pairs with its original by the sheet number in the title block, wherever it sits in the bid set. Bid sheets the addendum did not reissue are listed under Only in A, so the comparison covers just the sheets that came back.

What happens to the addendum memo and specification pages?

They are listed under Only in B, new or renumbered, and stay out of the pairs. When a memo mentions the same sheet number as a drawing, Drawing Revision Delta pairs the page whose size and shape match the bid sheet, so the drawing is compared and the memo is not. Any new drawing sheet in the addendum appears in the same list.

How do I see which addendum sheets changed the most?

Open Pairs and choose Compare all. The Status column fills in with each sheet's number of changes, share of change, and text edits, and the View choice Most changed first puts the heaviest revisions on top. Changed only sets aside the sheets with no visible change, and the summary line counts changed, unchanged, new, and removed sheets.

What happens to my original drawing files?

They stay exactly as they were. Drawing Revision Delta opens the drawings you pick for reading only and writes every export as a new file, in the folder you choose or under the name you type. The clouded set copies each revised sheet into a new PDF and adds the clouds as markups, so the issued sheets in your project folder are never touched.

Do my drawings stay on my PC, and how do I get the app?

Yes, they stay on your PC. Drawing Revision Delta runs in the Windows app sandbox with no declared capabilities and has no network code, no account, no sign-in, and no telemetry. Scanned title blocks are read with the text recognition built into Windows, on the PC. The app is a one-time purchase in the Microsoft Store for Windows 11 on x64 and ARM64 PCs, and the Store runs a 15-day free trial of the full app.
