Guided workflow variation

Two revisions of the set.Every changed sheet, found.

Drawing Revision Delta compares the earlier and the later issue of a drawing set on your Windows PC. It matches each sheet by its title block number, lines the pair up, ranks the sheets that changed, and clouds every change it finds.

Pick both sets, read the ranked list of changed sheets, and open the clouds. A one-time purchase covers it, and the 15-day free trial shows the fit.

If this sounds like your week

Revised sets rarely say everything that changed.

A new issue arrives as dozens of pages, sometimes one combined PDF, sometimes a folder of separate files. The revision block lists a date and a short description, and clouds mark what the drafter remembered to mark. Everything else falls to you: open both versions, hunt down each matching page, and flip back and forth looking for what moved.

Where tooling usually breaks

Flipping by eye misses the small edits that cost the most.

A stud size that went from 2x6 to 2x8, a keynote that gained one word, or a door that shifted a few inches all look alike at a glance. Working one pair at a time in a general PDF tool means matching the pages yourself, nudging them into register when the plot scale moved, and keeping your own tally of what you already checked.

Where Drawing Revision Delta lands

Compare the whole set in one pass.

Drawing Revision Delta takes a folder or files for each issue, pairs every sheet by its title block number, and aligns each pair for shift, rotation, and scale. Compare all fills a Status column with each sheet's changes, share of change, and text edits, and one choice sorts it most changed first. Open any sheet to step through its clouds, then export a report and a clouded set.

What you get

Feature highlights

Whole sets paired by sheet number

pick a folder or files for each revision, as one combined PDF, a file per sheet, or scans in TIFF, PNG, JPEG, and BMP, and sheets are matched by the number in each title block, read from the PDF text or with the text recognition built into Windows.

Changed sheets ranked

Compare all gives every sheet its number of changes, share of change, and text edits, sorts the most changed first, and lists the sheets that are new or removed.

Revision clouds around every change

every change is clouded and numbered in the change list, including changes nobody clouded on the drawing, and Fade unchanged shows exactly what moved.

Text edits in plain words

notes, dimensions, and schedules are compared word by word from the PDF text, so an edit reads “2x6” → “2x8”, even when only one character changed.

Aligned before it compares

each pair is lined up for shift, rotation, and scale and corrected locally for plotter and scanner stretch, then shown in Overlay, Blink, or Side by side.

A report and a clouded set, nothing uploaded

export a PDF change report with a SHA-256 hash of every compared file, the revised sheets with editable cloud markups, CSV files, and PNG snapshots, all on your PC.

Especially when

  • Find which sheets changed between a bid set and an addendum or conformed set without flipping through both PDFs sheet by sheet
  • Catch changes that were never clouded on a reissued drawing, including one-word edits to notes, schedules, and dimensions
  • Overlay two revisions of a sheet that were plotted at a different offset or scale, without lining them up by hand
  • Send the field or the bid file a clouded set and a change report without uploading the drawings to an online service

Who benefits

Real-world scenarios

An estimator at a small subcontractor

Two weeks before bid day, the general contractor issues a conformed set of sixty sheets. The estimator already took off the bid set and needs to know which sheets affect the price, without rereading all sixty.

She picks the bid set as Set A and the conformed set as Set B, chooses Compare all, and sorts Most changed first. The changed sheets rise to the top of the Pairs table, and the sheets marked No changes drop to the bottom.

An owner's representative checking a reissue

The architect reissued the set with a new revision block entry on every sheet and clouds on a handful. The owner's representative wants to confirm what else changed before the documents go to the contractor.

With Mask title block on, new dates and revision letters stop counting as changes. The Pairs table shows which sheets changed anyway, and the change report, with a SHA-256 hash of each compared file, goes into the project record.

Trying it on a set already reviewed

Before buying, a project coordinator wants to see how the app handles the office's own drawings: a combined bid set PDF, an addendum issued as separate sheet files, and a couple of scanned sheets.

During the 15-day free trial she picks both issues. Sheets pair by number across the combined file and the separate files, the scanned title blocks are read with the text recognition built into Windows, and the ranked list can be checked against the changes she found by hand.

Deep dive

What to look for in software to compare drawing revisions

Whole-set pairing. A revised issue rarely keeps the old file layout. The bid set may be one combined PDF and the addendum a folder of single sheets, in a different order. Software that pairs sheets for you saves the first hour of every comparison. Drawing Revision Delta reads the sheet number in each title block, from the PDF text or with the text recognition built into Windows for scans and CAD plots drawn as lines. Sheets that both carry a number pair only when the numbers agree; sheets with no number pair by title or file name. Unpair and Pair selected adjust any row, and sheets found in one issue only are listed as Only in A, removed or renumbered, and Only in B, new or renumbered.

A ranked answer first. The first question is which sheets changed. Compare all fills the Status column for every pair, for example 50 changes · 16% · 32 text edits, and a summary line counts the changed sheets, the sheets with no visible change, and the new and removed ones. The View choice sorts by Sheet order or Most changed first, or shows Changed only.

Alignment you do not have to do. Two plots of the same sheet rarely line up exactly. Each pair is fitted for shift, rotation, and scale, then corrected locally for the slight stretch that plotters and scanners introduce, and the alignment figures are shown for every sheet.

Changes you can read. Compare selected opens a pair in Overlay, with red for content only in the earlier revision and blue for content only in the later one, or in Blink or Side by side. Every change is clouded and numbered in the change list with its position on the sheet, and next and previous step through them. Fade unchanged lightens everything else.

Words, not only lines. Notes, dimensions, and schedules are compared word by word from the PDF text, so an edit is listed as “2x6” → “2x8” beside its cloud, even when it changed only one character.

Control over noise. Mask title block keeps date, revision-letter, and initials edits from counting; Draw mask covers any other area. Choose 150 or 200 DPI, and a sensitivity from Fine: report small edits to Ignore small differences.

Something to send. Choose folder and export writes change-report.pdf, which opens with the ranked changed-sheet list and lists a SHA-256 hash of every compared file; clouded-set.pdf, the revised sheets with editable cloud markups; sheet-summary.csv; changes.csv; and PNG snapshots.

Local by design. Everything runs on your Windows 11 PC, with no account and no upload. The Microsoft Store runs a 15-day free trial of the full app, so you can compare a set you already reviewed before you buy.

How it is built

Built to compare the drawings themselves, on your PC.

Aligned, then compared

Each pair is fitted for shift, rotation, and scale and corrected locally for plotter and scanner stretch, so the clouds mark what changed, whether or not the drawing was clouded.

Nothing uploads

It runs in the Windows app sandbox with no declared capabilities and no network code. No account, no sign-in, no telemetry, and scanned title blocks are read with Windows text recognition on the PC.

Drawings opened read-only

The sets you compare are only read. Every export is a new file, and the clouded set copies each revised sheet unchanged, with the clouds added as editable PDF markups.

FAQ

Straight answers—no glossary dump

What does software to compare drawing revisions do?

It matches each sheet of the new issue to the same sheet in the earlier one, lines the two up, and marks what was added and removed. Drawing Revision Delta does this for whole sets at once: it pairs by title block sheet number, ranks the changed sheets, clouds every change, lists edited words, and exports a PDF report, a clouded set, and CSV files.

Can I compare a combined PDF against separate sheet files?

Yes. Each revision can be a folder or a selection of files, and multi-page PDFs are split into sheets. A bid set saved as one combined PDF pairs with an addendum saved as one file per sheet, because the match comes from the sheet number in each title block, not from the file or page order. Scans in TIFF, PNG, JPEG, and BMP pair the same way.

How does it decide which sheets changed?

Each pair is aligned and compared at 150 or 200 DPI, and differences are grouped into numbered changes. The Status column shows the number of changes, the share of drawn content that changed, and the number of text edits read from the PDF text. Content under the title block mask is left out, and the sensitivity setting decides how small an edit counts.

What happens to my original drawing files?

They stay exactly as they were. Drawing Revision Delta opens the drawings you pick for reading only and writes every export as a new file, in the folder you choose or under the name you type. The clouded set copies each revised sheet into a new PDF and adds the clouds as markups, so the issued sheets in your project folder are never touched.

Do my drawings stay on my PC, and how do I get the app?

Yes, they stay on your PC. Drawing Revision Delta runs in the Windows app sandbox with no declared capabilities and has no network code, no account, no sign-in, and no telemetry. Scanned title blocks are read with the text recognition built into Windows, on the PC. The app is a one-time purchase in the Microsoft Store for Windows 11 on x64 and ARM64 PCs, and the Store runs a 15-day free trial of the full app.
